The Supreme Court of Nigeria has fixed April 22, 2026, to hear an appeal on the leadership dispute in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after granting requests for a faster process.
The PDP revealed this in a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
The party said the case came up for the first time at the apex court, where lead counsel for the Kabiru Turaki-led faction, Chief Chris Uche, asked the court to shorten the usual time allowed for filing documents.
Lawyers representing the respondents did not oppose the request. Counsel for the first to third respondents, E.C. Ukala, asked for 15 days to file their response.

Counsel for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Kingsley Magbim, also did not object but asked for 10 days.
After reviewing the application, the court granted a shorter timeline. It ordered all respondents to file their briefs within five days and allowed the appellants two days to reply where necessary.
The court directed that all documents must be filed on or before April 21. It then fixed April 22 for the hearing.
The appeal challenges an earlier ruling by the Court of Appeal, which upheld the judgment of Justice Omotosho.
In a related matter involving former governor Sule Lamido, the court also granted a similar request for a faster process. Lead counsel for the appellants, Paul Erokoro, made the application for abridgment of time and speedy hearing. Lawyers for the respondents did not oppose the request.
The court ruled that respondents in the Lamido case must also file their briefs within five days, while the appellants have two days to respond if needed. The case was equally fixed for hearing on April 22, 2026.
In its statement, the party called on its members to remain calm and hopeful.
The PDP said, “We charge all true and uncompromised PDP members to continue to keep their faith alive and uphold the party in their prayers.”
The party said that it believes the court will deliver a fair judgement that will protect democracy.
