American rapper A$AP Rocky has revealed that his mother had long wanted him to end up with global superstar Rihanna, even before their romance began.
In an interview with The New York Times, Rocky disclosed that while he was still dating another woman, his mother advised him to break up and pursue the Barbadian singer instead.
At the time, however, Rocky said he only saw Rihanna as a friend and was not interested in taking things further.

“Rihanna has always been my boo. I always f*cked with her,” he said. “My mother used to say, ‘I know you like this girl that you are with right now, but I want you with Riri.’”
Rocky explained that he repeatedly told his mother that Rihanna was just a friend, but she remained convinced the singer was the right woman for him.
“She insisted that Rihanna is a real one and that I should go for her. I’m telling you, mothers know best,” he added.
Reflecting on the timing of their relationship, Rocky said he was grateful they didn’t rush into anything earlier, noting that neither of them was ready for commitment or family life at the time.
“I’m thankful that my relationship with Rihanna started when it did. Because at any time prior to that, I don’t think I was ready for something like that. I don’t think she was, either,” he said.
A$AP Rocky and Rihanna first became close after he joined her Diamond Tour in 2013. Romance rumours later surfaced following Rihanna’s split from billionaire businessman Hassan Jameel in January 2020 after three years together.
Before his relationship with Rihanna, Rocky dated model Kendall Jenner between 2016 and 2017.
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky welcomed their first child in 2022, their second in 2023, and their third child in 2025.
