Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi Ugboma has accused Super Eagles players of losing focus during their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semifinal clash against host nation Morocco on Wednesday.
New Daily Prime reports that Nigeria crashed out of the tournament after a 4–2 penalty shootout defeat in Rabat, ending the Super Eagles’ quest for a fourth continental title.
Reacting in a video, Bovi blamed the players for the loss, accusing them of being distracted by social media attention, excessive praise from fans, and a lack of passion allegedly linked to unpaid match bonuses.

According to him, representing Nigeria goes beyond football, as the national team remains one of the few forces capable of uniting the country.
“Football is the only thing that unites Nigeria. So dear Super Eagles and intending Super Eagles, have it in mind that if you are playing for Nigeria, regardless of how the NFF treats you, understand that you have the potential to unite Nigerians,” Bovi said.
While forgiving Samuel Chukwueze for missing his penalty, the comedian stressed the emotional weight carried by national team players.
“I forgive Samuel Chukwueze for missing a penalty. But you need to understand that the weight of a nation lies in your hands. If you go for glory before victory, more often than not, you will become the victim,” he added.
Bovi further warned players against accepting national team call-ups if they are unwilling to give total commitment.
“Don’t come to the Super Eagles if you know you are not ready to give everything for the nation. If NFF delays your payment, let it go. Social media has distracted you all, and the praise got to your heads,” he said.
He concluded by reminding players that fan admiration is tied strictly to performance, not personality.
“You don’t understand that the fans don’t like you, they like what you do,” Bovi stated.
