The Adebo Ogundoyin Support Group (AOSG) has condemned the killing of Mr. Michael Oyedokun, a mathematics teacher who was abducted from a secondary school in Ahoro-Esinle, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, and later murdered by his captors.
The group made its position known on Monday, 18 May as outrage continued over the incident, which has prompted fresh concerns about insecurity in schools and the safety of teachers and students across the state.
AOSG called on the state government, security agencies, and other relevant authorities to rescue other victims still in captivity and ensure those responsible face justice.
AOSG in a statement released on Monday described the killing of Oyedokun as cruel, disturbing, and unacceptable, noting that the teacher was serving his community when he was taken by armed abductors.
The group expressed dismay over reports surrounding the teacher’s final moments, especially footage that surfaced after his death.
AOSG stated, “We are deeply disturbed by the gory video showing Mr. Michael Oyedokun speaking before he was slaughtered and beheaded by his abductors. No human being deserves to die in such a barbaric and inhumane manner.”
The group saw the incident as an attack not only on one individual but also on the values of humanity, education, and community service.
“This act is evil, senseless, and an assault on our shared humanity,” the statement read.
AOSG also expressed sympathy to Oyedokun’s family, colleagues in the teaching profession, and residents of Oriire Local Government, describing the late teacher as a committed educator who dedicated his life to serving young learners in his community.
According to the group, Oyedokun’s death should serve as a wake-up call for stronger protection of schools, teachers, and students in vulnerable communities.
“Mr. Oyedokun was a dedicated educator whose only crime was serving his community. His life mattered, and his sacrifice must not be in vain,” the statement said.
AOSG urged the Nigeria Police Force, other security agencies, and the government of Oyo State to intensify rescue operations for the remaining abducted teachers and pupils linked to the incident.
The group also demanded swift investigations and prosecution of all individuals connected with the attack, stressing that violence against educational institutions must not become normal.
AOSG stated, “We call on the Oyo State Government, security agencies, and all relevant authorities to ensure the immediate rescue of the remaining abducted teachers and pupils, bring the perpetrators to justice, and put an end to the wave of violence targeting schools in Oyo State.”
The group reaffirmed its support for justice, peace, and stronger protection for children and educators, insisting that access to education should never come at the cost of human lives.
“Education should never be paid for with blood. We stand for justice, for peace, and for the protection of every child and teacher in Oyo State.”
