Following the successful knee surgery, Super Eagles players have rallied to send warm goodwill messages to their teammate Victor Boniface,as the on-loan Bayer Leverkusen striker faces a lengthy recovery period.
Werder Bremen announced that Boniface, who joined the club on a season-long loan, will miss the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign after undergoing the procedure on January 10, 2026, to address a persistent knee issue.
The surgery, performed by renowned specialist Dr. Christian Fink in Innsbruck, Austria, brings an early and frustrating end to his time in Bremen.
In a touching video shared by sports content creator Calister Enejele on Instagram, several Super Eagles stars took turns offering encouragement, expressing full confidence in Boniface’s ability to bounce back stronger.

Captain Wilfred Ndidi led the messages, saying:“I just want to wish you a speedy recovery. I know you’re strong and you will come back stronger.”
Vice-captain Victor Osimhen added: “Wish you a quick recovery. I believe you will come back stronger.”
Ademola Lookman and others like Raphael Onyedika, Samuel Chukwueze, and Paul Onuachu also joined in with words of support, while Sevilla striker offered:“I may not completely understand what it feels like, but I wish you all the strength and God’s healing.”
Boniface last featured for the national team in May 2025, and this setback also ruled him out of the recent Africa Cup of Nations.
During his loan spell at Werder Bremen, the 25-year-old Nigerian forward struggled to find form, making 11 appearances in the Bundesliga (starting only twice), accumulating just 325 minutes across all competitions, with no goals but two assists.
Despite the disappointment, Werder Bremen confirmed that the loan agreement with Bayer Leverkusen will remain intact until its original end date of June 30, 2026.
