The United States have launched a deadly attack against Islamic State terrorists persercuting Christians in Nigeria.
Donald Trump said this on Sunday evening via his Truth Social account.
The New Daily Prime reported that Trump had declared Nigeria Country of Particular Concern (CPC). Several individuals, including rapper Nicki Minaj backed the President while Nigerian pastor Eugene Ugo had urged Nigerian government to act fast to avert US military invasion.
American lawmakers had also backed the President’s declaration while Sharia council of Nigeria condemned the status.
“Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even Centuries!,” Trump wrote
He stated that only the US is capable of doing that, after several warnings. The Department of War in the US also shared via its X handle.
“I have previously warned these terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was. The Department of War executed numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing,” Trump added.
He noted that under his leadership, America “will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper” while wishing “a Merry Christmas to all, including the dead Terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues.”
Christmas message: Netanyahu condemns attacks on Christians in Nigeria
Before the attack, in the early hours of Thursday, on Christmas Day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had called for an end to attacks against Christians in Nigeria, making the appeal during his Christmas message to Christians worldwide late Wednesday night.
In his remarks, Netanyahu reflected on the historical and spiritual ties between Judaism and Christianity, describing them as closely connected Abrahamic faiths rooted in ancient Israel. While Christians celebrate Christmas as the birth of Jesus Christ, Jews continue to await the coming of the Messiah.
Extending his Christmas greetings, the Israeli leader criticised what he described as the persecution of Christians in different parts of the world. He pointed to Middle Eastern countries such as Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Turkey, and also singled out Nigeria outside the region.
Aligning with the position earlier taken by United States President Donald Trump, Netanyahu attributed the violence to Islamist militants.
“The persecution of Christians or members of any religion cannot and must not be tolerated, and Muslim militant displacement and attacks against Christians in Nigeria, that too must end, and it must end now,” he said.
