The leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State has issued a fervent appeal for unity and restraint among its members and supporters, particularly in the wake of discussions triggered by the recent Anambra State Governorship Election held last Saturday.
In a statement released on Monday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Chief Macdonald Amadi, the ADC underscored its foundational principles of unity, integrity, and progress.
The ADC reiterated its dedication to cultivating an environment of mutual respect and collaboration among members and coalition partners.
The statement acknowledged circulating conversations within the party concerning the electoral performance of Peter Obi, a prominent coalition member and revered Nigerian statesman, in specific wards and local government areas during the Anambra poll.
“We recognise that these discussions may arise from genuine passion and loyalty to our party,” it noted.
However, the leadership warned that unmanaged discourse risked destabilising the ADC and eroding the hard-won cohesion it has striven to maintain.
“Such exchanges, if mishandled, could undermine the unity we have diligently fostered,” the statement cautioned.
Consequently, all members in Imo state were urged to exercise prudence and abstain from remarks or engagements that might be construed as derogatory towards Obi or any coalition ally.
“We must place the unity and integrity of our party at the forefront, especially as we prepare for forthcoming3 electoral contests,” the statement emphasised.
Looking ahead, the ADC pledged to bolster party structures, expand grassroots mobilisation, and formulate policies attuned to the aspirations of Imo’s populace.
It vowed continued dialogue with members, partners, and the wider community to position the party as a symbol of hope and advancement.
The leadership concluded with a rallying call: “Let us unite in this pivotal moment and champion our vision for a brighter future.
“By shunning divisive rhetoric, we can accomplish remarkable feats and transform lives across Imo State and Nigeria.”
