The factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has issued a stern warning to party members he accused of treachery, reminding them that “the law of karma is real and active.”
Speaking yesterday in Abuja during a solidarity meeting with the Forum of State PDP Chairmen, Damagum urged defectors and internal saboteurs to reflect on their actions against the party that propelled their political careers.
The state chairmen had converged on the capital to reaffirm unwavering loyalty to his leadership amid the PDP’s protracted internal crisis.
“I want to use this opportunity to call on our colleagues that the devil is using, to see wisdom in casting the devil in them because treachery, especially to an institution that has made you what you are today, will not heal,” Damagum declared.
“You may be lucky now, but there is the law of karma. What goes around comes around. I think it is not too late to see the need to do justice to this party that has given you all.”
He framed his restraint as divine patience rather than frailty, emphasising spiritual accountability.
“Sometimes, when I resort to the ways of God, people think it is a weakness. We exist because God exists. We owe everything that we do to Him.
He is watching us. He will judge us by our behaviour,” he added, concluding with the proverb: “They say a word is enough for the wise.”
Damagum vehemently rejected suggestions that the PDP was on life support, insisting the opposition remains robust and resilient.
He portrayed the party as a dependable “political vehicle” adept at surmounting internal turbulence while tackling Nigeria’s mounting socio-economic woes.
The gathering underscored deepening fissures within the PDP, exacerbated by high-profile defections and leadership disputes..
With state chairmen pledging solidarity, the factional chairman appears poised to weather the storm, banking on unity to revive the PDP’s fortunes against the ruling All Progressives Congress.
