Flag bearers of political parties contesting in the upcoming Anambra State Governorship election on November 8 on Monday signed a peace accord in Awka.
They committed to a peaceful, credible, and violence-free poll.

The event, held at the International Conference Centre in the state capital, was witnessed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.
The National Peace Committee (NPC) organised the crucial ceremony, which drew political leaders, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, civil society organizations, and traditional rulers.
Egbetokun stressed the fundamental importance of political tolerance and a deep respect for democratic values among all stakeholders.
He urged the candidates and their supporters to make a genuine commitment to peace not only during the election day but also in the periods leading up to and following the poll.
He reaffirmed the readiness of the police and collaborating security agencies to ensure adequate security throughout the electoral process.
Egbetokun emphasised the police’s mandate to remain neutral and professional in their duties, assuring the public of an unbiased security presence.
Egbetokun commended the state police commissioner, Ikioye Orutugu for his proactive security engagements and continuous efforts in advocating for peaceful participation across the state.
In their respective remarks following the signing, the political party candidates publicly pledged to uphold the principles of non-violence.
They urged their numerous supporters to conduct themselves responsibly and fully respect the integrity of the electoral process.

The signing of this peace accord is viewed as a significant step toward fostering harmony and mutual trust among all key stakeholders as the state finalises preparations for the governorship election.
