The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for the completion of the 2025 admission processes into public universities from 31 October to 17 November 2025.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the Board said the extension became necessary due to “emergent and compelling circumstances” affecting several universities.
Dr Benjamin recalled that the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, held on 18 July 2025 under the chairmanship of the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, had initially set 31 October as the cut-off date for all public universities to finalise their admissions.
“The Board commends the zeal, diligence, and commitment demonstrated by the various public universities toward meeting this approved timeline,” the statement read. “However, owing to some emergent and compelling circumstances, the Board has found it necessary to extend the deadline to Monday, 17 November 2025.”
According to JAMB, two major reasons informed the decision:
-
An appeal from the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) following court orders that temporarily halted the 2025/26 admissions process, which was only lifted on 28 October 2025.
-
The National Universities Commission (NUC)’s recent accreditation of 229 new programmes across 37 universities, announced on 29 October 2025, requiring fresh admission scheduling.
JAMB emphasised that the new deadline is final and must be strictly adhered to, while assuring institutions and candidates of its commitment to a “seamless, transparent, and credible” admission process aligned with national education goals.
The Board also reiterated that the extension supports the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which aims to expand access to higher education for all eligible candidates, including those applying to newly accredited programmes.
