Former Nigeria international Victor Moses is on the verge of joining Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls, according to reports emerging from Footy Africa and Complete Sports
The 34-year-old winger, who was released by Luton Town at the end of last season, is currently in advanced talks with the MLS outfit as he looks to continue his professional career in the United States. Sources close to the negotiations suggest discussions have been “positive,” with only minor details left to finalise before an agreement is reached.
Moses spent the 2024–25 campaign with Championship side Luton Town, making 18 appearances and scoring once. However, a combination of injuries and form limited his impact, leading to his departure in May.
Despite a difficult season in England, Moses’ vast experience and versatility have attracted interest abroad, particularly from the United States, where the Red Bulls are keen to add an experienced winger capable of influencing games both on and off the pitch.
If the deal goes through, the move will mark Moses’ first venture into North American football, having spent his entire career in Europe. It would also reunite him with a number of former Premier League players who have made the switch to MLS in recent years, following in the footsteps of stars such as Christian Benteke and Xherdan Shaqiri.
Moses is best remembered for his time at Chelsea, where he played under Antonio Conte and was reinvented as a wing-back in the club’s 2016–17 Premier League title-winning side. His adaptability and work ethic made him a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge.
During his career, Moses has represented several major European clubs, including Liverpool, Inter Milan, West Ham United, Fenerbahçe, and Stoke City. Across these stints, he built a reputation as a dynamic, hard-working wide player capable of influencing matches from multiple positions.
Internationally, Moses remains one of Nigeria’s most decorated players of the last decade. He earned 58 caps for the Super Eagles, scoring 20 goals and playing a pivotal role in Nigeria’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations triumph under coach Stephen Keshi. He also featured at two World Cups, in 2014 and 2018, before announcing his retirement from international duty later that year.
Despite stepping away from the national team, Moses has remained active in club football, maintaining his fitness and professionalism. Sources close to the player say he views the MLS move as “a new challenge and an opportunity to contribute his experience in a growing league.”
New York Red Bulls, currently rebuilding under a long-term sporting project, see Moses as a valuable addition who can mentor younger players while strengthening their attacking depth. The club’s technical staff reportedly admire his leadership and believe his winning mentality could prove vital during the 2026 MLS season.
An MLS switch would also allow Moses to extend his career in a competitive yet less physically demanding environment compared to the English Championship. For a player with more than 500 professional appearances across 15 years, the transition to the United States represents both a fresh start and a fitting chapter in an illustrious career.
Moses’ potential signing continues the Red Bulls’ trend of blending experienced international players with emerging domestic talent. If confirmed, he would join a squad featuring several promising young Americans looking to make their mark in the league.
While neither Moses nor New York Red Bulls have officially commented, sources suggest an announcement could come within the next week once medical and contractual details are finalised.
For Nigerian football fans, the move would bring another familiar face to the MLS stage, adding to a growing list of Super Eagles alumni who have continued their careers across North America.
From Crystal Palace to Chelsea, Milan to Istanbul, Victor Moses’ football journey has spanned continents. Now, with a new challenge awaiting in New York, the veteran winger looks set to add another chapter to his storied career.
