Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has boldly declared himself the number one artist in Nigeria.
The singer made the statement via his Instagram story on Friday, posting a photo of a whiteboard with the handwritten words, “Type sht. Big Wiz. Number 1.”

The post has sparked a wave of reactions online, as fans interpret it as the Ojuelegba born-artiste’s subtle response to the long-standing comparisons among Nigeria’s so-called “Big 3” Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy.
For years, supporters of the three global Afrobeats icons have debated who deserves the top spot, with Davido’s fans popularly calling him 001 and Burna Boy often referred to as 002.
Wizkid’s latest post is seen by many as his way of reclaiming that title and reasserting his dominance in the industry.
While Wizkid did not directly mention either Davido or Burna Boy, the timing of his post, amid ongoing debates about streaming dominance and concert achievements, has fueled fresh rivalry among fan bases.
The singer, who recently celebrated over a decade of success in global music, has remained one of Africa’s most influential artists, with multiple Grammy nominations and hit collaborations worldwide.
Whether playful confidence or a deliberate statement, his “Number 1” post has reignited Nigeria’s most famous musical rivalry and once again put Big Wiz at the center of conversation.
