President Bola Tinubu has arrived at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to attend the coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The President’s arrival was greeted with a rousing reception from a large crowd of dignitaries and residents, marking the climax of a week-long series of events celebrating the ascension of the new monarch.
The ceremony has drawn prominent personalities from across the country, underscoring the national significance of the occasion as Ibadan celebrates the continuity of its revered monarchical institution.
Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State and senator, was named the 44th Olubadan following the death of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin on 7 July.
Excitement has been palpable across the city as Ladoja takes his place on the revered throne. At 81, the respected businessman and political figure rose through the traditional chieftaincy hierarchy to assume the position of Olubadan.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland is the paramount traditional ruler of Ibadan, one of the largest cities in West Africa. The stool carries deep cultural, historical, and political significance among the Yoruba people.
