President Bola Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to travel to the United Kingdom to accompany the body of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari back to Nigeria.
Tinubu announced this in a statement on Sunday after confirming the passing of his predecessor, who died in London at approximately 4:30 PM (WAT) on Sunday, July 13, 2025, following a prolonged illness.
Buhari was 82 years old.
Tinubu extended his deepest condolences to Aisha Buhari, the widow of the former President, during a phone conversation.
As a tribute to the departed leader, Tinubu also ordered that national flags be flown at half-mast across the country.

Buhari was a significant figure in Nigeria’s political landscape, serving twice as the nation’s elected President, first in 2015 and then re-elected in 2019.
Before his democratic stint, he also led Nigeria as a military Head of State between January 1984 and August 1985.
