Vice President Kashim Shettima will today depart Abuja for São Tomé, the capital of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe.
Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President) disclosed this in a statement.
He will represent President Bola Tinubu at the country’s 50th National Independence Day celebration.
Shettima is expected to join other African and international leaders at the grand finale of the Golden Jubilee festivities, which will feature official speeches, parades, cultural displays, and traditional dances, showcasing the island nation’s heritage and unity.

Nigeria and São Tomé and Príncipe maintain close bilateral ties, especially in the area of joint resource development within the Gulf of Guinea.
This cooperation is coordinated through the Nigeria–São Tomé and Príncipe Joint Development Authority (NSTPJDA), which oversees the Joint Development Zone (JDZ).
Nigeria has also extended technical support, donations, and humanitarian assistance to São Tomé and Príncipe, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Shettima is expected to return to the country upon conclusion of his engagement.
