Nigerian music icon and humanitarian, Innocent Ujah Idibia, better known as 2Face, has raised a strong alarm over the unending wave of violence in Benue State.
The singer, who also serves as the Technical Adviser to the Governor of Benue State on Entertainment and Community Outreach, described the killings as a full-blown national emergency.
In a passionate video message posted on his social media pages, the award-winning artist expressed deep sadness and frustration over the situation. He urged all stakeholders in the state to put aside political differences and work together to restore peace.
‘My heart is heavy’ – 2face
Speaking directly to the camera in the video, 2Face said, “My heart is heavy. I am sad and angry. The situation in Benue State has become a national emergency. I can’t wrap my head around it anymore. I don’t even know what to say at this point. This has to stop.”
The veteran musician did not hide his emotions. He described how disturbing it is to watch communities suffer repeated attacks without a lasting solution from those in power. According to him, the continued silence and inaction by authorities are no longer acceptable.
Calls for unity and urgent action
2Face stressed that it is time for all individuals and leaders in Benue State to take responsibility and act. He said the killings have gone beyond something that can be addressed with simple words or online posts. He challenged politicians, community leaders, and citizens to join hands and take practical steps to stop the violence.
He continued, “My sadness, my anger, my frustration, it’s overwhelming that this keeps happening over and over again. This is no longer something we can condemn in words. Serious action needs to be taken.”
The singer added that real progress would only come when people put aside personal interests and unite for the greater good. “Every stakeholder in Benue must join hands. We can end this. I believe there is a solution,” he said.
Benue’s troubled history with violence
Benue State has witnessed repeated outbreaks of violence, especially in rural areas. Over the past few years, attacks by armed groups have led to the deaths of hundreds and the displacement of thousands. Many communities have been destroyed, and survivors continue to live in fear.
Despite repeated outcries from residents and calls for help, the attacks have continued with little intervention. 2Face’s recent message echoes the pain of many who feel abandoned and hopeless.
A voice beyond music
This is not the first time 2Face has spoken out on social and political issues. Over the years, he has used his platform to promote peace, unity, and social change. As someone born in Jos and raised in Makurdi, the Benue capital, the singer has personal ties to the region.
His appointment as Technical Adviser on Entertainment and Community Outreach by Governor Hyacinth Alia reflects his active role in the state’s development efforts. His latest appeal, however, shifts focus from entertainment to a more serious and heartbreaking issue: the right to life and safety.
Widespread reactions follow the appeal
Since the video went viral, many Nigerians have praised 2Face for his boldness. Social media users have joined him in calling on both the federal and state governments to act urgently.
Civil society groups and rights advocates are also backing the call for stronger action. They are urging the authorities to boost security in troubled areas, support victims, and hold those responsible for the killings accountable.
A plea for peace
As the video continues to gain attention, 2Face’s message stands as a heartfelt plea not just for Benue but for every troubled part of Nigeria. His words reflect a growing desire among citizens for real change and lasting peace.
“I believe there is a solution,” he said, “but we all have to work together to find it.”
