President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday honoured Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates with the national award of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR).
The recognition, presented in Lagos, celebrates Gates’ contributions to global health, innovation, and development, especially in Africa.
Gates met with Tinubu and other leaders to support reforms in the primary healthcare system.
He will also attend the “Goalkeepers Nigeria” event focused on Africa’s innovation future and meet with scientists shaping Nigeria’s AI and health strategies.

Gates earlier visited Ethiopia, where he met with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and took part in a public health roundtable.

His visit follows the Foundation’s announcement of a $200 billion commitment over the next 20 years to improve health, fight disease, and reduce poverty.
Gates has pledged to donate nearly all his wealth to support these goals.
The Foundation has helped save over 80 million lives through partnerships with Gavi and the Global Fund. Gates’ honour reflects Nigeria’s growing collaboration with the Foundation to improve lives.
