Today’s Sunday Gospel Jam is The Great Commission Album. Make that ride to church worthwhile!
The Nigerian gospel scene has seen so many greats come to the spotlight over the years with more gospel singers rising up each year.
Gospel artistes like Nathaniel Bassey, Sinach and a few others have been regarded as pacesetters of contemporary worship music in Nigeria and Africa at large. But one major individual who has constantly delivered quality worship music since his inception to the scene is Dunsin Oyekan.
Dunsin Oyekan, fondly called the Eagle, is a Nigerian gospel music minister, singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. He released his first album “Code Red” back in 2016 which was a huge success at the time.
Releasing a total of 6 albums and over 80 songs in 8 years excluding features. He has constantly wowed listeners with captivating lyrics, musical dexterity and heaven-inspired melodies.
In this article we would be reviewing his 6th studio album which also happens to be his most recent album release “The Great Commission”.
The Great Commission album is just more than an album, it is a wake up call, a call to action and a musical journey into faith and purpose.

Released in April 2024, this 14-track masterpiece showcases Dunsin’s signature blend of Afro gospel, worship, and contemporary sounds, featuring collaborations with renowned artists like Naomi Raine, Theophilus Sunday, and more.
Highlights of the Great Commission Album
The Great Commission album kicks off with “Worthy of my Praise” which sets the pace for the 13 other songs to come.
With a catchy intro that sounds like an alarm clock, there was arguably no better way to kick-start the album creating an atmosphere of pure worship.
Then it moves down to “Sing over me” as track number two. This track is so relevational and expresses the meaning of true worship, with lyrics like “…worship is about what you want to hear, not the one I want to sing”. This track ranks as my top pick of the entire album.
“Kadosh” comes up next as track number 3. Kadosh translates to “holy or sacred”, and contextually means “Holy God” in this song. Kadosh was a live recording which had people lost in worship.
“Emperor of the Universe “ is a powerful song with an amazing melody. The song features Theophilus Sunday whose vocals added to the sublime of the song.
“The Future” is a song that features a mesmerizing chorus sung in multiple languages. It’s a song that symbolises the universality of the gospel message while also declaring hope and faith over listeners.
The Great Commission album wouldn’t feel complete without a praise party track and “Undignified” served exactly that. Its a song that speaks of God’s faithfulness in seasons and how “you don’t know, like I know what he has done”.
The “Upper room anthem” twins with this to add an upbeat praise feel to the album. Both songs would get you dancing.
Other songs like “Yeshua”, “The worshippers song”, and “City of God” would get you praying in no time.
These songs are anointed beyond doubt. Overall, the album scores a 9/10 for me based on the quality of music, lyrics and vocals. The Great Commission is a must-listen for anyone seeking to deepen their faith, connect with God on a deeper level, and be inspired to share the message of hope with the world.
