Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused the Federal Government (FG) of attempting to frustrate the national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by targeting its event venue in Abuja.
In a statement posted on his X account on Tuesday, Atiku alleged that authorities were moving to revoke the licence of Rainbow Event Centre, the venue scheduled to host the party’s convention.
He described the move as “a shameful and cowardly abuse of public office,” claiming it was aimed at stopping the opposition party from holding its lawful gathering.

According to him, the party had fulfilled all requirements for the use of the venue.
He said, “The ADC has paid every fee. The ADC has signed every contract. The ADC has broken no law.
“Our only offence is that we are organising, we are growing, and we are preparing to retire this failed government at the ballot box in 2027.”
Atiku argued that denying the party access to the venue would amount to a violation of democratic rights.
He stated, “Coercing a private business owner to deny a lawfully registered opposition party the use of a venue is not governance.”
He further warned that such actions, which he described as attempts to silence opposition voices, could weaken democratic practices in the country.
Despite the development, the former vice president insisted that the convention would go ahead as planned.
He said “We will not be intimidated. We will not be silenced. We will not bow to this creeping tyranny, and we will never bow to the petty tyrants behind it.”
He also called on the international community to take note of the situation, while expressing confidence in the party’s political future.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official response from government authorities regarding the allegation.
