President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, has made a clear promise during his visit to Senegal, of fully carrying out the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s decision on the disputed 2025 AFCON title.
The controversy begins with an unusual ruling. CAF’s Appeals Committee declares Morocco the winner of the January 18 final by a 3-0 score. This happens even though Morocco loses the match on the pitch 1-0. The reason is simple: Senegal’s players walk off the field.
This decision sparks strong anger across Senegal. On March 18, the government issues a firm statement. It calls for an international investigation into suspected corruption inside CAF’s top bodies.
However, Senegal does not back down. The Senegalese Football Federation files an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport and fights to protect its rights.

Motsepe now addresses the matter directly during his visit. “The challenges and issues experienced during the final are now before the Court of Arbitration for Sport,” he says. “CAF will fully respect and implement whatever decision is taken.”
In addition, Motsepe explains the purpose of his trip. He comes to build close ties with Senegal’s football leaders, the president, the government, and the people. He stresses that these challenges now belong in the past. CAF shifts its focus to developing football in every member nation and strengthening the game right across Africa.
Next, Motsepe plans to deliver the same message when he visits Morocco today, Thursday. Experts view the trip as a key diplomatic mission. It aims to ease tensions and calm the atmosphere around the ongoing legal battle over the AFCON title.
