The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reaffirmed its loyalty to the party’s National Working Committee led by David Mark, distancing itself from dissenting voices within the party.
In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by its Publicity Secretary, Nwigbo Samuel, the chapter stressed the importance of unity and internal cohesion, particularly at a time when divisions have emerged among party leaders. The statement came in response to remarks by some state chairmen who had questioned the legitimacy of the current leadership.
The FCT chapter made it clear that it stands firmly behind the leadership structure headed by Mark, urging party members nationwide to align with this position for the sake of stability and progress. It warned that internal discord could undermine the party’s prospects and weaken its ability to function effectively as a political force.
Highlighting the risks of prolonged disputes, the chapter advised aggrieved members to avoid resorting to litigation, which it described as potentially damaging to the party’s unity. Instead, it encouraged the use of established internal mechanisms for conflict resolution.
“A divided house cannot stand,” the statement noted, emphasising that legal battles could expose the party to manipulation by external interests.
According to the FCT chapter, resolving disagreements through dialogue and party structures would better serve the collective interest.
The chapter also called on senior figures and stakeholders within the ADC to intervene and help restore stability. It appealed for fairness, inclusiveness, and a renewed commitment to ensuring that no member feels marginalised within the party.
Expressing optimism about the party’s future, the statement concluded that the ADC remains capable of overcoming its current challenges. It added that a united front would position the party to provide credible opposition and potentially replace the current administration, which it criticised for negatively impacting the country.
The development reflects ongoing internal tensions within the ADC, as different factions continue to contest leadership and direction.
Political observers note that how the party manages these disputes could significantly influence its standing in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
