Ambassador Designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has blamed the David Mark faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying it is responsible for its current legal crisis following a recent Court of Appeal judgement.
In a post he made on X on Thursday, Omokri claimed that the ADC faction’s rejection of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) interpretation of the March 12 ruling lacks a logical basis since the faction failed to provide an alternative explanation.
Omokri noted that the Mark’s faction chose to appeal an initial Federal High Court ruling instead of showing the court why an injunction from a rival faction was unnecessary.
He explained that by choosing to appeal, the group must now accept the decision of the higher court.
Omokri said, “If they feel that the interpretation of the Court of Appeals judgment by the INEC is wrong, then the Mark faction should approach the same court for clarity or appeal to the Supreme Court.”
Omokri criticised the faction for trying to turn public opinion against INEC.
He compared the situation to when INEC recognised a specific faction of the Labour Party in February, noting that no one accused the commission of being controlled by outside forces then.
He remarked that political leaders must follow the law instead of their emotions.
According to Omokri, the ADC’s troubles stem from people trying to “buy” political parties rather than building them from the ground up.
He pointed out that no Nigerian President has ever come from a party that was simply purchased or taken over like a business.
Omokri maintained that the David Mark group should stop blaming INEC or the ruling party and instead fix the “defective product” they acquired, as there is little time left to build a new party before the next elections.
