Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, issued the statement on March 31, 2026 that the president denounced the killings and abductions, emphasizing that such acts “will not go unpunished.”
He said the attacks on soft targets aim not only to harm citizens but also to provoke reprisal attacks and escalate bloodshed.
President Tinubu directed security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and to address the spread of misinformation that could inflame tensions. He also cautioned against media narratives suggesting the attacks were religiously motivated.
“The safe return of two of the Kaduna victims is commendable, but all remaining abductees must be rescued immediately,” he said, urging proactive action based on early warning intelligence to prevent future attacks.
The President also praised the efforts of Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State in managing the situation and supporting rescue operations. He assured both state governments of his administration’s full backing.
He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and prayers for the quick recovery of the injured. The President noted that his government is procuring more advanced equipment to enable security agencies to track and neutralize criminals in real time.
