Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has firmly denied reports suggesting that Nigeria’s national team players made any “special demands” while in camp.
He clarified that the players’ current concerns are strictly about receiving their overdue payments, not additional or extraordinary requests.
The response comes amid growing tension within the Nigerian camp in Morocco, where preparations for a crucial World Cup qualifying playoff were reportedly interrupted by a player protest over unpaid bonuses.
Addressing the issue on social media, Troost-Ekong quoted a post from BBC journalist Oluwashina Okeleji, adding his own clarification: “Any other statement/claim or especially demands other than the rightful request written about below is FALSE. All we want and continue to do is focus on the big games ahead.”
His statement directly counters earlier reports suggesting that the players had made fresh or “special” demands linked to the ongoing playoff campaign.
Troost-Ekong emphasised that the team’s focus remains on ensuring that long-standing financial obligations are met, allowing them to concentrate fully on the upcoming matches.
Meanwhile, Tensions escalated earlier in the week when the Super Eagles reportedly boycotted a scheduled training session on Tuesday, in protest over the unpaid bonuses.
The move drew attention to what many have described as persistent financial issues between the players and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).
Troost-Ekong concluded by assuring fans that once the matter is resolved, the team will be the first to make it known.
