Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is reportedly anticipating a lengthy suspension following a racially insensitive remark he made about his teammate Heung-Min Son. The incident occurred during a summer appearance on Uruguayan TV, where Bentancur commented that Son and his cousins “all look the same,” a statement he later described as a “very bad joke.”

Bentancur has been informed by his agent that the FA is considering a seven-game ban, although neither the FA nor Tottenham has publicly confirmed this. Bentancur, currently on international duty with Uruguay, expressed a desire to remain focused on his national team responsibilities until the matter is formally addressed by his club.

The FA charged Bentancur with misconduct in September, citing violations related to abuse and references to race or ethnicity. The midfielder promptly apologized to Son, who responded with forgiveness, emphasizing that the incident hadn’t affected their friendship, saying, “We remain brothers; nothing has changed.”

The FA has yet to announce a final decision, and Tottenham has not issued a statement regarding the incident. Spurs captain Son has shown public support for Bentancur, downplaying any personal animosity and defending his teammate.

This situation places Bentancur’s availability for Tottenham’s upcoming fixtures, including a high-stakes match against Manchester City on November 23, in question, as he awaits the FA’s official decision on his potential suspension.
