The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced that Franco-Malian Éric Chelle will be unveiled as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles.
Chelle who was appointed by NFF after months of no coach to head the national football team will be unveiled on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Media Conference Room of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
This was disclosed in a statement published on the NFF’s official website on Sunday.
Chelle, a 47-year-old Franco-Malian coach, was appointed last Tuesday by the NFF Executive Committee following recommendations from its Technical and Development Committee.
Chelle will be unveiled alongside his assistants.
NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, expressed confidence in Chelle’s ability to steer the Super Eagles to greater achievements.
Gusau said the new coach and his team will shepherd the Super Eagles B at next month’s African Nations Championship in East Africa, before focusing squarely on the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, beginning with the matches against Rwanda (away) and Zimbabwe (home) in March.

“We appreciate the fact that Nigerians are very passionate about the game of football, and that is the reason for the different tones of reactions following the appointment of Coach Chelle. However, the NFF hereby appeals to Nigerians to come together and support him, as we believe he has the qualities to achieve success with the Super Eagles. The NFF will give him all the support that he needs to succeed in the job,” Gusau said.
He urged Nigerians to support the new coach, saying “The country believes he possesses the skills and experience to succeed with the Super Eagles.”
Gusau also assured fans that the NFF would provide Chelle with all the necessary resources to excel in his new role.
Chelle, who previously managed Algerian club MC Oran and led Mali’s Aiglons to the brink of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals, is known for his tactical expertise and leadership skills.
He resigned from his role at MC Oran to take up the Super Eagles coaching position.
Meanwhile, former Super Eagles striker Victor Ikpeba has voiced his support for Chelle, encouraging Nigerians to rally behind the new coach as he embarks on this challenging journey.
