Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal has departed the Spain national team camp following the team’s 1-0 victory over Denmark on Saturday. Yamal returns to Barcelona ahead of Spain’s next game against Serbia after picking up a knock in Saturday’s victory against Denmark. The forward is set to miss Spain’s next fixture with Serbia on Tuesday as he recovers under the supervision of his club’s personnel.
The 17-year-old’s return to Barca is a precautionary measure to prevent an injury as tests carries out by the RFEF medical team did not detect any injury. The Spanish football association released an official statement confirming this. It reads, “Lamine Yamal underwent an MRI this morning in Madrid to assess the discomfort he reported after the match against Denmark.
“The tests have not detected a structural injury and the RFEF medical services confirm that it is an overload.
“Prioritizing the player’s health and to avoid any risk of injury, given the imminent match against Serbia, it was decided to suspend his squad.”
Yamal’s return to the club will give him ample time to rest ahead of Barca’s next La Liga fixture against Sevilla. He was involved in over 90 minutes of action in Spain’s domination over Denmark ending in the narrow 1-0 scoreline thanks to Martin Zubimed’s late volley to beat Kasper Schmeichel.
Hansi Flick will be hoping the knock is not serious as the club’s injury list is already long, including starters like Marc-André ter Stegen, Dani Olmo, Gavi, Ronald Araujo and Ferran Torres. Yamal’s impact has been immense for the club this season with four goals and five assists in nine La Liga games.
