The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday alleged that the recent wave of terrorist attacks across Nigeria is part of a plot to derail the reform agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
Akpabio made the claim in Abuja during the inauguration of the Nigeria Revenue Service Headquarters, where he addressed the President directly.
He said, “Believe me, Mr President, two weeks after you win the elections, the bomb blasts will stop. People are sponsoring it to distract you from your work.”
He added that the President was doing great in spite of all the challenges fashioned against him and his administration.
He said, “You are doing so well despite the gang-up on your administration.”

His remarks come amid growing concern over insecurity in parts of the country, including insurgency in the North-East and rising cases of banditry and kidnapping in other regions.
The statement also follows a recent meeting between Tinubu and top security officials at the Presidential Villa. The closed-door talks involved the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, as well as a visiting French military officer. The meeting was intended to focus on strengthening security cooperation.
The meeting came weeks after the President announced that France had agreed to provide military equipment and training support to Nigeria’s armed forces in the fight against insurgency.
Akpabio also addressed allegations of bias against the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), where he dismissed claims that a resurfaced social media post suggested political alignment.
According to him, the statement attributed to the INEC chairman was taken out of context and made before he assumed office.
Akpabio said, “He did not say victory is sure for any political party.
“Anybody can support anybody whom he wishes to.”
However, he stressed that public officials must remain neutral once in office, noting that national responsibility requires fairness to all citizens.
Nigeria continues to grapple with multiple security challenges, with attacks in recent weeks which have continuously raised fresh concerns about the country’s stability.
