To ensure better efficiency,the Senate, today reshuffled its committee on tax reform bills.
The Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the changes in the committee membership during today’s plenary.
Akpabio disclosed that the Senate’s Chief Whip Tahir Monguno has been replaced by Kaka Shehu, the senator representing Borno Central Senatorial District.
Both Monguno and Shehu hail from Borno State.
The initial nine-member committee was constituted during yesterday’s plenary, chaired by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin.

The panel, headed by Senate Minority Leader Abba Morro of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), included principal officers, including Monguno was mandate lto liaise with a federal government delegation headed by Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi(SAN)
However, at today’s session, Akpabio raised concerns about the inclusion of principal officers in the committee, stating that it contradicted an earlier agreement reached during a closed-door session.

According to him, the senators had resolved that no principal officer would participate in the meeting with the federal government delegation to ensure transparency in the deliberations.
To address this, the Se nate president canvassed Monguno’s removal from the committee and recommended Shehu to represent the interests of the North-East region.
He further suggested that all principal officers be excluded from the discussions.
Akpabio’s proposal was put to a voice vote and was supported by the majority of senators.
Following this decision, Akpabio directed Morro, to replace Monguno with Shehu.
