Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, and Agboola Ajayi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Ondo governorship election, emerged victorious in their respective polling units.
At polling unit 05, Ugbo Ward 4, Obenla in Ilaje LGA, where Aiyedatiwa cast his vote, he garnered 128 votes, while Ajayi managed only three.
Conversely, at polling unit 04 in Apoi Ward 2, Kiribo, Ese-Odo LGA, Ajayi outperformed Aiyedatiwa with 194 votes, while Aiyedatiwa secured just three. The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) received a single vote, and six votes were declared invalid.
Earlier, Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence in his chances of winning the off-cycle gubernatorial election, citing his achievements in office.
He emphasised his efforts to canvass support across all 18 LGAs and encouraged voters to participate without fear or bias.
The APC candidate also pledged to accept defeat if the election results were credible.
“If the outcome does not favour my party (APC), and there’s no report of fraud, why not? We will accept defeat,” he stated. “However, if there are reports of malpractice or procedural violations, we will seek redress at the tribunal. Overall, I will respect the outcome.”
Aiyedatiwa commended security agencies for ensuring a peaceful election process, describing the exercise as seamless across the state.
Meanwhile, Ajayi, his closest rival, raised concerns about the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) ability to conduct a credible election.
The former deputy governor criticized the slow pace of the process, accusing INEC of engaging in a “deliberate attempt to rig the polls.”
He further expressed dissatisfaction with the electoral process, arguing that INEC’s inefficiencies were eroding the credibility of the election.
