The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has introduced extensive security measures to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and credible gubernatorial election in Ondo State on November 16.

In a statement, police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi revealed that the IGP has assigned DIG Sylvester Alabi as the Coordinating DIG for the election. Alabi will oversee the implementation of security strategies to maintain law and order throughout the electoral process.

Additionally, AIG Bennett Igweh and CP Tunji Disu have been appointed as the AIG and CP Elections, respectively.

The police added that all vehicular movements on roads, waterways, and other transportation channels will be restricted from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Election day.

More so, the police said exceptions will be granted only to individuals on essential duties, such as ambulance services, fire services, accredited media personnel, and other critical responders.

Furthermore, the police noted that security aides and escorts assigned to VIPs are prohibited from accompanying their principals to polling booths or collation centres to prevent disruptions.

Additionally, unauthorized security personnel and quasi-security agencies were barred from operating during the election period, and the use of sirens by unauthorised vehicles is strictly prohibited.

“Special consideration will also be extended to individuals with disabilities, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and those facing mobility challenges to ensure that polling stations remain accessible. Designated election lines have been established for inquiries and reporting incidents. These lines will be publicized as soon as possible.

“The Nigeria Police Force urges citizens to report all suspicious activities that may threaten the integrity of the electoral process and reaffirms its commitment to fostering a safe and democratic environment as the state gears up for the elections.

“The Police will also be working with the military and other Federal security agencies as collaborative efforts from all stakeholders are vital to ensuring that the elections are conducted fairly and peacefully,” said Mr Adejobi.
