Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has vowed to emulate the transformative achievements of Senate President Godswill Akpabio in Akwa Ibom State to drive development in Edo.
Speaking during a reception held in his honor in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, Governor Okpebholo described Akpabio’s tenure as Governor of Akwa Ibom (2007–2015) as a period of unprecedented transformation.
He commended Akpabio for repositioning the state into one of Nigeria’s most vibrant and aesthetically appealing regions.
“The man I love to call ‘the uncommon man’ did so much when he was Governor, and today, Akwa Ibom’s history cannot be written without Akpabio’s transformation magic. Before his tenure, Akwa Ibom was one of the states written off. But within eight years, he achieved so much that Uyo is now regarded as one of the finest cities in Nigeria,” Okpebholo said.
The governor expressed his determination to replicate Akpabio’s development model in Edo State, adding that his visit to Akwa Ibom had solidified his vision for transforming Edo.
“With what I have seen and heard during this visit, I am more confident that the mandate given to us by the people of Edo is achievable. Akpabio did it in Akwa Ibom, and we will do it in Edo,” he assured.

He also praised Akpabio’s legislative achievements, noting his exceptional leadership as Senate President.
“What Akpabio has accomplished in legislation is unparalleled. Within one year in office, he has achieved feats that many who served as Senate Presidents for eight years couldn’t. When things get tough in the Senate, he has a unique way of calming everyone down and taking charge,” the governor added.
In response, Senator Akpabio lauded Governor Okpebholo’s humility and willingness to learn, describing these traits as key to his eventual success in governance. He encouraged Okpebholo to remain focused on delivering people-oriented projects that will transform Edo State.
Okpebholo’s remarks have sparked optimism among Edo residents, who eagerly anticipate the governor’s efforts to implement Akwa Ibom’s transformative template in their state.
