Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has called for healthy competition among state governors as a solution to Nigeria’s developmental challenges.

He made this known during a weekend visit to Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodinma.

Governor Okpebholo emphasised the importance of governors undertaking working visits to other states to exchange ideas and observe progress firsthand.

He noted that such interactions would not only inspire replication of successful initiatives but also motivate governors to surpass one another’s achievements, fostering widespread development.

“Most times, sitting back in your comfort zone or state, you assume you’re doing great—especially when you govern a state where little progress has been made over the years,” Governor Okpebholo said. “But when you visit other states and witness massive infrastructures, impressive road networks, and effective governance, it broadens your perspective on development.”

He expressed his commitment to transforming Edo State into one of Africa’s fastest-developing regions. “I have a working template and a clear vision for Edo. From day one in office, we hit the ground running, and in just one month, the people of Edo can already see the direction we are heading,” he said.

Governor Okpebholo commended Uzodinma for his significant developmental strides in Imo State, describing the state’s transformation as remarkable and worthy of emulation.

“Imo State has experienced such a massive turnaround under your leadership that it’s almost unrecognizable. You are a good ambassador of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, demonstrating what we stand for through your projects and reforms,” he added.

In response, Uzodinma praised Governor Okpebholo’s visit, noting its potential to foster collaboration and enhance governance across states.

He urged his Edo counterpart to remain committed to delivering impactful projects and addressing critical issues in the state.

“I am optimistic that Edo State will experience a transformative era under your leadership. Visits like this allow us to share ideas, compare notes, and learn from one another, which ultimately benefits our people,” Uzodinma stated.

The governors pledged to continue working together to drive development across their states, emphasizing the importance of healthy competition as a catalyst for national progress.
