Mojisola Meranda has stepped down from her role as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Reading her resignation letter aloud during a special plenary session on Monday afternoon, she announced, “This is a notice of resignation as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.”

Meranda took over the position on January 13, 2025, following the ousting of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who is now rumoured to be making a comeback.

Despite her short time in office, lawmakers commended her leadership and contributions to the Assembly’s progress.

She resigned alongside all principal officers who assumed office with her.

Meanwhile, Obasa has been reinstated as Speaker.

His reinstatement comes after Meranda resigned from the role with immediate effect.

Obasa was reappointed during the House’s plenary session on Monday.

Earlier in January, lawmakers removed him from office, citing various fraud allegations.
