The Federal Government (FG) has announced Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26, 2024, and Wednesday, January 1, 2025, as public holidays to mark Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year celebrations respectively.
This declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to Nigerians and urged them to use the festive season to reflect on the values of love, peace, and unity that the season represents.
He emphasised the importance of fostering harmony and strengthening familial and communal bonds during this period.
He also called on citizens to remain committed to the peace, unity, and progress of the nation, which are vital for national development.
According to him, “The Christmas season provides an opportunity for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us embrace kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences.”

The Minister assured Nigerians of the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity across the country.
While wishing citizens a merry Christmas and a prosperous 2025, Tunji-Ojo expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stating that it would usher in a better and prosperous new year, positioning Nigeria as a nation of envy on the global stage.
