The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised an alarm over what it describes as planned, sponsored protests aimed at destabilizing the state.

The party claimed to have received credible intelligence indicating that certain individuals and leaders within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are behind the purported demonstrations.

In a statement issued yesterday by the party’s chairman, Jarret Tenebe, alleged that these protests are not driven by genuine concerns of the people but are instead politically motivated attempts to create unrest.

He emphasised that Governor Monday Okpebholo respects the constitutional rights of citizens to peaceful assembly but warned against misinformation and deliberate falsehoods fueling the protests.

“We have observed a pattern of misinformation being spread ahead of these planned demonstrations. It is clear that the intention is not to highlight legitimate issues but to incite unrest and undermine the progress the state has made under Governor Okpebholo’s leadership”, he said.

He further stated that it had identified specific individuals and groups behind the planned protests, accusing them of seeking to create unnecessary tension and disrupt public order.

The party urged law-abiding citizens to remain vigilant and distance themselves from the protests, assuring them that the government remains open to dialogue and engagement on any legitimate concerns.

It also reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across Edo State.

“We will not allow any individual or group, regardless of their motives, to disrupt the peace and progress of Edo State. Law enforcement agencies have been placed on high alert and will take all necessary measures within the ambit of the law to prevent any breakdown of order,” said the party’s chairman.

The party called on parents, guardians, and community leaders to advise their wards against participating in the alleged protests, warning against being used as political tools to destabilize the state.

“The APC remains focused on supporting Governor Okpebholo’s administration in delivering good governance and fostering sustainable development across the state.

“We urge all citizens to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and continue supporting the government’s efforts to build a prosperous Edo State.”
