The Presidency has denied allegations made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar regarding an alleged Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) investigation linked to financial dealings in Lagos State.

In a statement issued by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency described Atiku’s claims as ‘false’ and ‘a troubling pattern of relying on social media gossip over substance.’

Presidency criticised the former vice president for allegedly resorting to baseless speculation in a bid to remain politically relevant.

“President Bola Tinubu remains focused on addressing critical national challenges and advancing his administration’s agenda for Nigeria’s growth and stability.

“The President has neither the time nor the inclination to engage in petty political distractions,” said Presidency.

The Presidency accused Atiku of attempting to deflect from his political setbacks following his defeat in the 2023 presidential election, stating that he has failed to embrace the role of an elder statesman.

Instead, the Presidency noted, he continues to engage in ‘divisive rhetoric and unfounded accusations.’

Furthermore, the Presidency defended the EFCC, noting that it operates independently and without external influence.

It dismissed any suggestion that the agency is being used for political purposes as a ‘disservice to its professionalism and the rule of law.’

Additionally, the Presidency called on Atiku to redirect his focus toward efforts that promote national unity, economic progress, and democratic stability, rather than engaging in what they termed ‘fabricated controversies.’
