Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the recent court victory of the African Democratic Congress belongs to Nigerians.
Atiku made this known in a statement on Thursday after the Supreme Court of Nigeria affirmed the leadership of David Mark. He maintained that the judgement gives hope to citizens who want change.
He acknowledged and welcomed the decision of the apex court, describing it as a firm confirmation of the party’s leadership.
Atiku said the ruling strengthens the position of David Mark. This, in other words, brings clarity to the party at a time when unity is needed.

“This victory belongs to Nigerians, the courageous millions who refuse to surrender their future,” Atiku said.
He noted that many citizens have continued to stand strong despite challenges facing the country.
He thanked supporters of the party across the country and urged them not to relax.
Atiku maintained that the court decision is only one step in a longer journey. He stressed that the struggle to rebuild the country is still ongoing.
He, however, warned that party members and supporters must not become relaxed because of the ruling.
He said there is still a lot of work ahead for those who want a better Nigeria.
He noted that the aim is to “take back and rescue” Nigeria, which he said requires unity and commitment.
Atiku also called on Nigerians to remain watchful and active in national issues.
“We thank them, and we urge them to remain steadfast, because the struggle is far from over,” he said.
This suggested that citizens must continue to play their role. Moreover, the court ruling is believed to inspire hope among Nigerians.
Atiku ended his message with a call for vigilance.
“As we press on, let this truth guide us: eternal vigilance is the price of liberty,” he said.
The court ruling has been seen by many observers as a major step for the party.
Atiku’s message makes it clear that he sees it as part of a wider effort to achieve political change in the country.
