President Bola Tinubu has commended NIPCO for its investment in Nigeria’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) sector during a meeting with the company’s executives at the State House, Abuja.
This was revealed by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The President praised NIPCO’s contributions to the nation’s energy transition efforts, particularly its support for the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI).
He acknowledged NIPCO’s pivotal role in promoting the adoption of CNG as an alternative fuel, aligning with his administration’s broader goals of energy security and economic diversification.
Tinubu stressed the importance of strong public-private partnerships in advancing cleaner and more affordable energy solutions for Nigerians.
He lauded NIPCO’s proactive efforts in driving the “Switch to CNG” campaign, which has been crucial in raising public awareness and providing affordable CNG conversion kits ahead of the formal launch of the Presidential CNG Initiative.
The President emphasised the significance of this initiative in reducing the country’s dependence on petrol and lowering fuel costs for consumers.
He noted that CNG, as a cleaner and more cost-effective fuel, not only helps cut down on fuel expenses but also contributes to reducing Nigeria’s carbon footprint.
“Nigeria’s motorists can buy petrol at N1,000 per litre or equivalent gas per Standard Cubic Meter at N200. We have also introduced incentives for commercial motorists to convert from petrol to gas” free of cost,” Tinubu said.
President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering a favourable environment for private sector investments, with a particular focus on expanding Nigeria’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure to drive energy efficiency and spur economic growth.
He urged NIPCO to maintain its innovative leadership in the expansion of CNG, aligning with the government’s broader objectives in transforming the nation’s energy landscape.
Leading the delegation, NIPCO Director, Ramesh Kasangra expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his unwavering support of the CNG sector.
He emphasised NIPCO’s commitment to deepening its partnership with the government, ensuring that Nigeria’s energy transition remains on course.
Kasangra reassured the president of NIPCO’s readiness to invest in critical infrastructure, aimed at making CNG more widely accessible across the country.
With over four decades of active engagement in various sectors, he highlighted NIPCO’s long-term confidence in Nigeria’s future, underscoring the company’s continued belief in the nation’s potential for growth and progress.
