The Nigerian Senate has inaugurated an 18-member committee to oversee the activities of the Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), in a move aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability in the state’s governance.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the formation of the committee during plenary on Tuesday, naming Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele as chairman.
Akpabio emphasised that the committee’s work would play a crucial role in deepening legislative oversight and ensuring that democratic norms are upheld in Rivers State. “This committee is expected to provide effective scrutiny and ensure the right processes are being followed,” he said.
He noted that the committee’s structure could be revised after further consultations, hinting at possible adjustments in its membership.
The Senate President also urged the committee to begin its work without delay, citing the urgency and importance of the assignment.

The committee includes Senators Adamu Aliero, Osita Izunaso, Osita Ngwu, Kaka Shehu, Aminu Abass, Tokunbo Abiru, Adeniyi Adebire, Sani Musa, Simon Lalong, Asuquo Ekpeyong, Adams Oshiomhole, Ireti Kingibe, Onyekachi, Idiat Adebule, Ide Dafinone, and Mohammed (APC, Jigawa), with the Clerk of the Senate also participating.
