Omoyele Sowore, the convener of the Take-It-Back movement, has firmly rejected any plans to join a proposed coalition of former presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general election.

Sowore made his position clear in an interview with Arise TV’s Politics Today, stating that he would not align with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) or participate in the coalition being discussed by opposition figures.

Sowore expressed his discontent with such coalitions, arguing that they are essentially repeating the same mistakes that led to the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) coalition in 2013 and 2015.

He emphasised that he would only support a coalition of the oppressed, distancing himself from what he described as political alliances formed by individuals who, in his view, have contributed to Nigeria’s current challenges.

“I’m not joining any coalition. The coalition that they joined in 2013 and 2015 is what brought about the APC, so joining another coalition in 2025 is doing the same thing all over again, the coalition that needs to be built is that of the oppressed. Joining another coalition made up of the same people who created the coalition that ruined Nigeria is an injustice and an injury to the people of Nigeria,” Sowore remarked.

He further added, “You can never see me in their coalition, and I will never be part of it. I’m not joining the SDP, and I’m not part of those playing chess with the destiny of Nigerians.”

Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, along with Obi and ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has been involved in discussions about forming a united opposition front aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Atiku shared this in a recent press conference organised by Concerned Leaders and Political Stakeholders in Nigeria.

Atiku also raised concerns over the future of Nigeria’s democracy, warning the current government against undermining federalism, democracy, and constitutional governance.

He stressed that this matter extends beyond just Rivers State, highlighting its potential impact on the nation’s democratic future.

Sowore’s decision to reject both the SDP and the broader coalition signals his continued stance on challenging the established political order and advocating for a different vision for Nigeria’s future.
