Citing wrongheadedness, Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has criticised the accolades showered on former President Muhammadu Buhari on his 82nd birthday, stating that he did not deserve them.

The New Daily Prime earlier reported that Buhari received numerous tributes, including one from his successor, President Bola Tinubu, who pledged to uphold Buhari’s legacy.

In a series of posts on X, Sowore accused Buhari of destroying Nigeria and labeled him “Baba Munafikin Banza, Baba Barawo Banza.”

He further argued that it was unjust that Buhari was not handcuffed alongside the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, for allegedly overseeing massive looting and economic sabotage during his eight-year tenure.

Sowore also expressed disappointment that Buhari was not facing trial at the International Criminal Court for the atrocities and crimes against humanity he allegedly committed across Nigeria. He cited incidents such as the massacre of Shiites, violence in the Southeast, and the #EndSARS crackdown.

His posts read: “A man that destroyed his country do not deserve any honour, accolades or happiness. Baba Munafikin Banza, Baba Barawo Banza!

“It is unfair and unjust that Muhammadu Buhari is not facing trial like former CBN governor Godwin Emefiele for the massive looting and economic sabotage he supervised during his disastrous eight year tenure or that he is not facing trial simultaneously at the International Criminal Court for the monumental atrocities and crimes against humanity he committed across Nigeria from the massacre of Shiites, South easterners, and #ENDSARS.”
