RSG inaugurates committee to upgrade Old Port Harcourt Township

To reactivate the Urban Renewal vision, the Rivers State Government (RSG) has inaugurated a committee to redevelop the old Port Harcourt City Centre.

This announcement was posted on the government’s Facebook page on Thursday, noting that, on behalf of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, inaugurated the committee.

In a statement released through the Head of the Press Unit of the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Juliana Masi, it was stated that this initiative aims to rebuild the old Port Harcourt City, including its lands and waterways.

According to Danagogo, Governor Fubara expressed concern over the current state of the old Port Harcourt Township infrastructure and the eroded town plan.

While outlining the focus areas, he mentioned that the old Port Harcourt Township, old GRA, Mile 1 Diobu area, canals, and waterfronts in the affected areas would be redeveloped.

To achieve this initiative, he explained that the committee members were selected to collaborate and brainstorm impactful ideas.

He appreciated the members for accepting the invitation to help create a beautiful and functional city.

The administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt Development Authority and chairman of the committee, Tonte Davies, expressed gratitude to Governor Fubara and pledged their commitment to actualizing this initiative.

Davies also vowed to contribute their expertise to the redevelopment of the affected areas.
