Mr Jollof’s Wife files N500m case against VeryDarkMan

Esinjemiyotan Atsepoyi, the wife of renowned Nigerian comedian Mr Jollof, has launched a defamation lawsuit against popular social media activist Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan. The claim seeks a staggering N500 million in damages, as escalating tensions between the two prominent figures have led to serious allegations that Mrs Atsepoyi vehemently denies. The roots of this controversy trace back to a series of incendiary claims made by VeryDarkMan, who operates primarily from Abuja. It all began when Otse alleged that Mrs Atsepoyi employed dubious methods to allegedly manipulate her husband, Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi, into securing a prestigious role as the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. These allegations strike at the integrity of not only Mrs. Atsepoyi but also her husband’s professional accomplishments. In addition to the accusations regarding her husband’s appointment, VeryDarkMan took his claims further. He accused Mrs Atsepoyi of engaging in an extramarital affair with a “Yahoo boy” and allegedly having relations with several politicians. Such allegations are not only damaging but could have far-reaching repercussions for both Mrs Atsepoyi’s personal life and her business endeavours. In a bid to defend her honour and reputational integrity, Mrs Atsepoyi has issued a stern 30-day ultimatum demanding that VeryDarkMan appear in court to substantiate his claims. She took to social media platforms to circulate a four-page writ of summons, effectively stating her intentions to pursue legal action against him. This legal document meticulously outlines the nature of the accusations and the subsequent damage caused by the public dissemination of these claims. Among the demands put forth in the lawsuit is the request for N500 million in compensation for the harm that has been inflicted on both her reputation and her business. This significant sum illustrates the depth of her distress over the situation and underscores the seriousness of the claims made by VeryDarkMan. Moreover, Mrs. Atsepoyi is also asking the court for an order requiring VeryDarkMan to issue a public apology. This apology must be published in at least two nationally circulated newspapers and shared across all of his active social media platforms. This measure seeks not only to repair the damage done but also to reaffirm the integrity of Mrs Atsepoyi in the public eye. The legal documentation outlines several declarations, including: A proclamation that VeryDarkMan has indeed defamed Mrs Atsepoyi through his online publications dated the 15th,16th, and early hours of the 19th of September,2024. A formal direction from the court mandating VeryDarkMan to compensate Mrs Atsepoyi to the tune of N500 million as general damages for the harm caused by his statements. An official order that compels VeryDarkMan to publicly apologize to Mrs Atsepoyi via two reputable national newspapers and on all his social media accounts. A request for a perpetual injunction that would restrain VeryDarkMan from making any further defamatory remarks regarding Mrs Atsepoyi in the future. This unfolding legal saga not only sheds light on the personal struggles of those within Nigeria’s entertainment industry but also highlights the immense pressures and scrutiny that public figures often face. As the days progress, the eyes of the public and media remain glued to this high-profile case, eager to see how it will develop in the courts. In a world where social media has the power to amplify voices, the need for accountability and respect for individual reputations has never been more critical. As this story continues to evolve, it raises important questions about freedom of speech, the consequences of allegations, and the dignity of individuals in the public domain.

Tinubu spoke at the opening of a two-day Consultative Workshop on Livestock Reforms held at the State House Conference Centre, aimed to lay the groundwork for a comprehensive strategy to enhance productivity and economic contribution from the sector. President Tinubu expressed his commitment to ensuring that such oversights are not repeated, stating, “A country of over 200 million people cannot serve our children one pint of milk in a classroom per day. That is not right.” He emphasised the need for a robust framework that stimulates prosperity in livestock farming, noting that the government will actively support initiatives to revamp the sector. “The livestock sector is critical, and we will give all it needs to bring value to our country. Stakeholders, I assure you that you will not regret the collaboration and investment in this sector,” he said. The President praised the efforts of the Presidential Livestock Reform Implementation Committee, led by Co-Chairman Prof. Attahiru Jega, for their dedication to transforming livestock farming in Nigeria. He articulated a vision to shift the sector from a subsistence model to a commercialized industry, which would significantly bolster Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and create job opportunities. Highlighting the current challenges, President Tinubu pointed out Nigeria’s potential as the leading livestock producer in West Africa, with substantial resources, including 563 million chickens, 58 million cattle, and 124 million goats. However, he lamented the country’s low production of animal-source foods, stating that Nigeria’s annual output of milk, meat, and eggs falls drastically short of its needs. The President noted, “Our average milk yield by cow breeds managed by our pastoralists is a mere 0.5 to 1.5 litres per day, compared to a global average of 6.6 litres. We can do much better!” He also mentioned the financial burden of past neglect, with milk and dairy products costing the country $1.2 to $1.5 billion in imports annually. Tinubu called for collective action, saying, “Yes, we can do it. We can bring prosperity to our people. We can feed our children. From grass, we can achieve grace.” He acknowledged the support of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) in driving the reform, thanking the forum’s chairman, Abdurrahman Abdulrazaq, for his commitment to the initiative. Abdulrazaq assured the President of the subnational governments’ full support for the reforms, emphasizing their critical role in ensuring national food security. He expressed regret over past failures to implement similar initiatives, attributing them to a lack of political will. Injury could push Joshua’s next fight to May

The highly anticipated rematch between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois, initially suggested for February, faces uncertainty as concerns arise over the timeline. Joshua, 35, was defeated by Dubois in their first encounter at Wembley last month, with the 27-year-old retaining his IBF world title following a fifth-round knockout. Dubois dominated the bout, knocking Joshua down in the opening round before sealing the victory. Despite the defeat, Joshua’s desire for a rematch remains strong. However, his promoter, Eddie Hearn, has expressed doubts about Joshua’s readiness to return to the ring so soon. Speaking to Sky Sports, Hearn highlighted the tight schedule, noting, “Our concern at the moment is just timing… If we’re going to fight him in February, we need to start camp in about three weeks’ time. It’s quite a fast turnaround.” Joshua, known for his disciplined approach, is managing some minor injuries that could further delay preparations. Hearn suggested that a return around May might be more suitable, allowing Joshua more time to recover and train effectively. “From a body perspective, we could probably do with a little bit more time ideally,” Hearn added, emphasizing the challenge of rushing into a high-stakes fight.
