The Rivers State Police Command has commenced investigations into the activities of two suspected cultists apprehended during a security operation at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).

The Command spokesperson said the suspects were promptly handed over to operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Unit.

A search conducted on the duo produced two locally fabricated pistols, four live cartridges, two rounds of 9mm ammunition and a small axe. Further investigations led officers to Corporal Onwukwe’s residence, where an additional locally made pistol and two machetes were recovered.

The Command confirmed that the suspects remain in custody while detectives work to establish the depth of their involvement in cult activities and trace possible links to other criminal associates.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Olugbenga Adepoju, assured residents that the Command will sustain its clampdown on cultism and other violent crimes across the state. .

He called on the public to remain vigilant and to promptly share credible information with law enforcement agencies, emphasising that community cooperation is vital to maintaining peace and security.

Police spokesperson, Iringe-Koko, stressed that the crackdown on cult groups will continue until all perpetrators are brought to justice.
