NUPRC: Nigerian refineries to require 770,500 BPD for first half of 2025

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has projected that the Federal Government, Dangote Petroleum Refinery, and eight other domestic refineries will collectively require 770,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day (BOPD) for processing between January and June 2025.

The NUPRC’s forecast aligns with efforts to enhance refinery capacity utilisation and ensure a steady supply of crude oil, in accordance with Section 109 of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.

Refinery Requirements

The refineries in focus include:

  • Dangote Refinery: 550,000 BPD
  • Port Harcourt Refinery (old): 60,000 BPD
  • Warri Refinery: 75,000 BPD
  • Kaduna Refinery: 66,000 BPD
  • OPAC Refinery (Delta): 5,000 BPD
  • Waltersmith Refinery (Imo): 4,500 BPD
  • Duport Midstream (Edo): 2,000 BPD
  • Edo Refinery: 1,000 BPD
  • Aradel Refinery (Rivers): 7,000 BPD

These requirements represent 37% of the projected daily crude production of 2,066,940 BPD for the first half of 2025.
