Abosede, the mother of the late singer Mohbad, has called for family reconciliation over her son’s death, as September 12 marks one year since his passing.

The late singer’s mother made her intentions clear in a video released on Wednesday, as she arrived at the Lagos Coroner’s Court to attend the ongoing investigation into Mohbad’s 2023 death. Speaking in Yoruba, Abosede expressed her desire for a peaceful resolution, emphasizing that the current actions of individuals involved in the case were not bringing the family any comfort.

She stressed the importance of prayer and urged authorities to allow the family to resolve the matter internally. In her words, “I don’t want anyone to do anything beyond what his father says. I just want them to go to the church and mosque to pray for him (Mohbad).”

A recent video from the coroner’s inquest captured a tense moment when Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, completely ignored Abosede’s efforts to reconcile. The viral clip showed Abosede kneeling to greet her late son’s father, but he disregarded her, even as an onlooker attempted to mediate between the two. Despite Abosede’s show of respect, Mr. Aloba turned away.

The New Daily Prime recalls that following Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2023, his father, Joseph Aloba, was vocal in seeking justice. Abosede, though estranged, also sought justice while supporting Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi. However, tensions recently escalated between Abosede and Wunmi, with Abosede accusing the widow of betrayal.

Abosede’s call for reconciliation is seen as an attempt to put an end to the public drama and restore family harmony.

In a related development, the administration of National Medical Services Laboratories in Pennsylvania, United States, denied in May conducting any toxicological tests on Mohbad’s remains. This denial came after the Lagos State Government claimed that Mohbad’s body had been sent to the U.S. to establish the cause of death.

Responding to inquiries from PUNCH, NMS Labs clarified that they had no involvement in the case. Esther Dede, Client Services Associate at NMS Labs’ Forensics Division, stated that no toxicology test for Mohbad was carried out at their facilities, challenging the Lagos State Government’s previous assertions.
