The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has congratulated Chidinma Adetshina on emerging as the first runner-up at the recently concluded Miss Universe competition.

The New Daily Prime reported that Adetshina, representing Nigeria, secured the first runner-up position at the 73rd Miss Universe Competition held in Mexico.

The grand finale, hosted at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, culminated in a thrilling face-off on Sunday morning between Nigeria and Denmark, as both contestants stood poised to claim the coveted crown.

Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, clinched the title, succeeding Miss Universe 2023, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua.

In a statement posted on his X page on Monday, Obi lauded Adetshina as a beacon of hope, particularly for Nigerian youths navigating various challenges on their path to success.

He commended her resilience, emphasizing that despite Nigeria’s difficult times, Adetshina remained steadfast, proving that “success lies ahead” for those who persevere through hardship.

“I followed with keen attention the journey of our Nigerian beauty queen, Chidimma Adetshina, and her rise to stardom. I can only describe her journey as a demonstration of resilience, perseverance, and dedication. Through her struggles and the very challenging times, she held on to faith, hope, and her determination to rise to the top.

“And today, she has emerged victorious. She may not have received the 2024 Miss Universe crown, but competing against over 120 contestants from around the world and securing the first runner-up position in the competition and first position in Africa is a giant stride of which we are proud”, the former Anambra State Governor said.

Obi praised Adetshina for her unwavering belief in herself and Nigeria, stating, “To everyone who contributed to her success today, your dedication and effort have truly paid off.”

He reaffirmed his commitment, as well as Nigeria’s, to creating a better future for the nation’s exceptionally talented youth, emphasizing that no obstacle is insurmountable.
