Beirut, Lebanon- Prime Minister Najib Mikati has raised alarms over the escalating humanitarian crisis in Lebanon, revealing that recent Israeli attacks may have displaced up to one million people.
This alarming figure represents roughly one-sixth of Lebanon’s total population and marks the country’s worst displacement crisis in decades.
The situation has intensified following the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, which has exacerbated fears of further regional instability. In his address to the nation, Mikati emphasized the urgent need for international support, stating, “We are witnessing a humanitarian catastrophe that we have not seen before. Our people are suffering, and immediate action is required.”
Since the onset of the attacks, hundreds have lost their lives, while thousands have been forced to flee their homes.
Reports indicate that over 200,000 individuals are currently internally displaced, with more than 50,000 seeking refuge in neighboring Syria.
Local humanitarian organizations are struggling to provide aid to those affected, as infrastructure continues to be damaged and resources dwindle.
“The situation is dire. Families are in desperate need of food, shelter, and medical care,” said a spokesperson for one aid organization.
“We urgently need the international community to step in and assist.”
As Lebanon grapples with its worst displacement crisis in recent history, the Prime Minister has called for solidarity among the Lebanese people, urging them to remain resilient in the face of adversity.
“We must come together as a nation to support one another during these challenging times,” Mikati said.
With tensions continuing to rise and fears of further escalation in the region, the international community is watching closely. The need for a coordinated response to alleviate the suffering of displaced individuals in Lebanon has never been more critical.
