The officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency responders have rescued a yet-to-be-identified driver whose 40-foot container collapsed on his Toyota Camry at Mile 2, along the road to Apapa.
LASTMA in a statement on its X page on Monday said the Toyota Camry was severely damaged.
The incident occurred when the container, which was heavily loaded, fell onto the car, trapping the driver inside.
The joint rescue operation involved personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), who worked together to extricate the victim from the wreckage.
Furthermore, LASTMA said the driver had been transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
According to LASTMA, security at the scene was provided by officers from the Kirikiri Police Division, ensuring the safety of both emergency workers and bystanders during the operation.

“Once the driver was safely rescued, efforts to remove the fallen container were initiated. LASTMA officers continue to manage the scene, working to ease traffic congestion while ensuring that normalcy is restored as quickly as possible.”
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, emphasised the importance of proper container securing by truck drivers and owners.
He warned that negligence in securing loads could lead to accidents that endanger lives and property.
LASTMA is urging all road users to comply with safety regulations to avoid such incidents in the future.
“The authorities remain committed to ensuring road safety and are collaborating with relevant agencies to improve the security and efficiency of Lagos roadways.”
